Game of Thrones: Undermining Male-dominated Society, Suggesting a World Ruled by Women

Based on TV series Game of Thrones (from season 1 to 6) we can easily maintain that it’s undermining male-dominated world while on the other hand, offering an alternative world and society ruled by women. Men allowed to be succesfull -in the long run- only as a wise person while as an warrior doomed to fail and lose.

It is indisputable (for me!) that Game of Thrones is one of the best TV series in the world. Some -parts of some- episodes may be belittled and disliked, at the end there is nothing impeccable and perfect. I will not discourse on how perfect and great the series is. I will focus on the women characters and their role and effect in the series.

When we look at the women and men characters and their position in the very first episodes, we see a male-dominated world where men rule. In this very first episodes women have almost no impact on what’s going on. However this situation changes over time. The men rulers ruin everything, no one of them can achieve what they want.

Here are the powerful female characters: (to be elaborated later.)

  • Cersei Lannister
  • Daenerys Targaryen
  • Brienne of Tarth
  • Melisandre
  • Olenna Tyrell
  • Margaery Tyrell
  • Yara Greyjoy
  • Sansa Stark
  • Arya Stark
  • Lyanna Mormont (Especially with her tirade in s.6x e.10)
